I remember time when a knitted tea cosy would have been considered old fashioned and, like many items highly regarded now as vintage, cast aside as a pointless item of yesteryear.
I guess I am talking about the 1980s, the decade of extreme modernity when somehow beautiful old furniture was thrown out and replaced by MDF build it yourself, fashionable quick to make and replace pieces.
Thankfully, times have changed, and knitting as a whole has made a massive comeback. People are turning away from fast fashion and furniture that falls to bits. Vintage is highly regarded and well sought after, and many of us wish that we had kept hold of our old clothes and household goods as they are now back and in demand.
Anyway, part of our love affair with vintage includes hand knit items for our homes, pieces from yesteryear. The hand knit tea cosy is seeing a boom in popularity as people want to add individuality to their kitchens and warmth to their abodes.

Hand knitter who specialises in custom tea cosies
I would like to use this article to highlight a lovely UK Etsy seller, Anita, from BAHKnitting. Anita knits and sells wonderful gift ideas. In her shop you will find super cute knitted baby booties such as some fabulous fortune cookie booties, sweaters and awesome elf hats. Also in the shop is of course a collection of wonderful hand knit tea cosies.
You can see below an example of one of Anita’s super cute knitted tea cosies. What fun this looks in the kitchen, and what a delightful gift idea! I asked Anita what her favourite item to knit is and she said, “My absolute favourite things to knit are my quirky tea cosies and I’ll take custom ideas and try and create something !”

Please do check out BAH Knitting if you are looking for retro inspired hand knits for your home. This talented maker accepts custom orders and will work with you to create unique pieces too!
